Concertina

This is a concertina. The concertina is a traditional Irish instrument. It is played in céilí bands along with the other instruments. It is similar to the accordion. By pushing and stretching it, air is forced through the reeds in it which creates the sound!

Wooden Flute

This is the wooden or traditional flute. It is used in Irish music. The wooden flute is made from wood and silver. You blow over a hole like you do with a bottle to make sound. You hold the flute to the side and you use your finger to cover the holes to change the notes.

Tin Whistle

This is the tin whistle. Tin whistles are not actually made from tin, they are made from brass!  The mouthpiece is made from plastic, and is called a 'fibble'. There are many different tin whistles in different keys. The most common is the tin whistle in the key of D.

Bodhran

This is the bodhran (bou-rawn). The bodhran is an Irish percussion instrument. The drum is made from wood and goat skin. There are usually celtic patterns on the goat skin. The bodhran can be played with the fingers or with the tipper (the stick).

Accordion

This is the accordion. The accordion is similar to the concertina. Like the concertina it uses the same method of pushing and stretching to make the sounds. The accordion has a larger range of notes than the concertina. The accordian can play notes at a very fast rate.
